Summer 2010 Alpha Ski Trips Classics

The HCYG (Holy Comforter Youth Group) is one of the most diverse groups one could be involved with. The members range from the sport loving athletes, to book worms, from band lovers, to band members, from Thespians, to Artists. Coming from almost every school in Sumter this group does not have ties to any particular school. The goal of the group is to get to know each deeply, continue developing community, welcoming others, and the whole time learning about Jesus, the rest of the Bible, and owning Christianity rather than believing what one has been spoon fed.

We have an annual summer trip to Tennessee for out door adventure and to learn about a Christian book that should help with spiritual development and understanding. During the fall we attend two retreats with the diocese one for jr. high and one for sr. high. We have a ski trip during the winter designed for community building, and then in the Spring we put on our own retreat for both sr. and jr. high. The rest of the year we meet on Sundays for youth group, Wednesdays for a bible or book study, and Thursday mornings for a bible in a year group (students must commit to reading the bible in a year to participate). We also have weekly beach trips and lake trips during the summer for students who would like to learn to surf or wakeboard.

Rising 6th graders are welcomed in at the end of the summer so that the outgoing seniors are not rushed out, and get to enjoy the entire summer as part of the group before being moved to the college ministry. If you have a student who would like to get involved please contact Timothy Rutherford the Youth Minister and find out how your student can get plugged in.
